Captain’s Log, local calendar date March 30th. First Officer Spock and I have been transported to the strange planet, Noctium, of the Apothecan system, whose civilization rests on islands suspended in the planet’s troposphere.

Mr. Spock has theorized that this place is some sort of nexus connected to the multiverse, as though it were the great tree Yggdrasil—evidently, we are unanticipated travellers in a land as mythologically fantastical as those in the Old Norse folktales. Divine embodiments of common Earth minerals, the Cardinal Gems, are worshipped as gods, and it's due to Malachite's awakening that we find ourselves stranded here. While investigations into this phenomenon are well underway, there are too many variables involved to make any meaningful predictions.

As we search for answers, we have decided to immerse ourselves in the culture and adhere to the Noctian lifestyle in an effort to familiarize ourselves with their technological advancements and socioeconomic structure. In one month they’ve proven to be an adaptable, cooperative species with a mind for self-enrichment; what will the future hold for them? And if our plans to meet and broker an alliance with their Prime Minister, Aurora Nyx, should come to fruition, what will the future hold for our Federation?

For now, we must focus on the things we can change. There is information left to gather and calculations yet to be completed; dwelling on maybes is not recognized as a command prerogative, nor is it—as my commander would say—logical for me to do so.
