(three months. so he was given enough time to get comfortable before it was all stripped away. no, he doesn't believe that stiles is alright, but there's only so much an acquaintance can do.)
We all have our preoccupations. I'm afraid I'm not very good at vacationing.
(that's what this journey has been to him. despite everything that's happened, bad and good, it is little more than a pause in a far busier schedule.)
I'm the Gembonded consul. That means that I am striving to protect our interests and rights as outlanders in this world. I don't know what came over me; I'm a soldier, not a diplomat. But it feels as though we needed the help.
It's my duty to see to it you're comfortable, Stiles. My door is always open if you'd like an objective opinion on any goings-on on Noctium.
It's unlikely I have any new information you'd benefit from where Malachite is concerned. I know that they are a shape-shifting Cardinal Gem whose philosophies lie in change and transformation. I know that their dreams are powerful enough to transport us across universes and alter our forms. I know that our Synchrony is what gives Malachite their power or, at the very least, bolsters it.
The Cardinal Gems themselves supposedly live on another plane of reality. Communication with them will be impossible at present, but Prime Minister Nyx is their go-between. As, apparently, an Oracle of considerable strength and influence, an audience with her will undoubtedly be more enlightening than speaking personally to Malachite themselves. "Born" recently, Malachite, whose imagination brought us here, may not know the answers we seek nor care that we seek them. This isn't pure speculation; they present themselves most commonly as a child and the correspondences we have had with them in the past reflect that state of mind. They are self-serving, immature, and amoral.
Understand, Stiles, that I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to meet Malachite and ask them questions. It is my belief, however, that our fates may be left in the hands of a ten-year-old, "God" or not. Their abilities are unreliable at worst and unpredictable at best.
That's my insight, such as it is. Seek an audience with Nyx before attempting to contact an unstable entity.
[ The answer may not be what he wants to hear, but he does appreciate the time Kirk put into breaking down the situation for him. Furthermore, the starship captain suggests a suitable alternative instead of simply turning Stiles down; that makes it near impossible for him to remain disappointed. While he doubts that Aurora Nyx will have the information he wants – or that she’ll be willing to share with the Gembonded – it’s his next best shot.
Eventually.
His motivation to pursue the topic evaporates like steam, leaving him exhausted. ]
Thanks, Jim. If you ever get the chance to talk with her, maybe mention there are a few of us with questions we’d like to ask. You could poll the Gembonded and organize those questions, then pass them on to her or something. I don’t know. Just an idea.
Prime Minister Nyx and I come into contact frequently; my position demands it. There are, however, diplomatic procedures I'm obligated to observe. As a senior officers in the United Federation of Planets, Mr. Spock and I represent not only ourselves but our respective species in their entirety. What questions we ask, how we ask them, and when we ask them must be considered carefully. You, too, are—directly or indirectly—providing the Gems with an example of what Humanity is at its core and what they can expect from us in the future.
I will, however, take all that you say to heart, and I'll work on this with you, Mr. Stilinski. We'll find the answers we seek in due time.
Until then, welcome back. I hope to see you in class, as we missed your unique perspectives.

So, you’re working for the government now? You seem like a busy guy. Guess a quiet life doing nothing doesn’t really suit a starship captain, though.

Do you have any insight about Malachite?
[ A fledgling fire flickers to life within him, hope against hope that maybe Kirk has the impossible answers he’s so desperate for. ]
Do you think the government will let you meet them? Or pass on questions to them?
